Beautifully jagged trees,
mute observers of man
formed by dark velvet bolts of lightning
Infrequent stars touch tapering fingers,
solid trunks with limbering branches
guarding patches of seasoned leaves
stretch out limbs in anticipation,
ready even to catch the sky
should it fall
Melanie Clippinger
up drip the tree branch fingers
into icy emptiness
washed in watercolor blue-grey
together yet,
isolated
bare and weary of the ascent
shake and tremble with a breeze
as with you
so close that I could
almost
touch you
but When I reach
my hand
into the space between us
there is nothing
you fade away
silently
isolated
