Satirist

in blinding light
in a crazy mirror
the satirist saw
his book open
its pages turning slowly
their images inverted
their symmetry awry
magnifying his errors
distorting his distrotions
into horrifying truths

                            Jerome Salzmann

                            October Suddenly

The trees dip their fingers in red and gold paint
                                     and hold them up proudly,

October leaps suddenly along the mountains
                                     lighting torches.

                            Life slowly slips from the year;
Warmth fades from its dry withered shell,
But dying leaves explode in one last blaze
and the crisp air in your mouth is delicious,

                                    like fresh snow.
