be true to myself." ( No. Won't let you take John like you
took me--- John will grow up free and proud. Please, oh
please David go away. How much in that name David
David David.' I hate you I love you I want you to hold my
head in your calloused hands. I wish I could cr y v l
      . Gurgles beckon suddenly, then--- loud declarative
crytng. The baby in the next room is discovered awake. David's
gaze leaps past her head. He breathes gentleness, wonder.
"Oh - " H e r- stare protective afraid--- afraid she wI"ll su brrnniit
to him, or regret it if she doesn't--- God.
         "Tiny." (Wonder)                          "David--- "
( "Yes, David." A forgotten voi ce dares.
 strong, quiet) "Please go away."
"Do you sing to him?"
"Yes."
d The minds search for each other.      He puts the child
k?W~--- she doesn't even remember his  picking him up or
ISStng him.
h "0. K . " He surrounds her small scared face with his
 ands--_ a minute stops--- touching her forehead.  Then he
Ieaves.
         She hadn't cried except for  books and at movies---
even at her grandmother's funeral.     Funny--- to cry. What
a game.
