to Satan and was condemned by God; he repented and God forgave
him. Now man again rules the world; rules it in such a way that men
and women on earth tremble and fear what is behind the dawn of
each new day. Man works, invents, decides, and carries through his
decisions. Man has conquered man; the atom; but not Nature-for
man has forgotten that he cannot conquer God ....

the silver ship

                                                                        by pamela wolfe

                  The sea was black; the waves TOlled high)
                  They rose with a deafening sound.
                 And as I stood upon the beach)
                 I could feel the quaking ground.

                 Then) suddenly) the sea was calm;
                 The waves took a final dip.
                 Then) riding high on ice-blue waters)
                 There came a silver ship.

                 I watched as it slowly sailed into shore)
                 And stopped on the golden sand.
                 Then something drew me onto its decks)
                Like an unknown invisible hand.

                There were no others upon this ship;
                The cabins were empty and bare.
                Fear and anguish seized my heart)
                For the ship rose into the air.

                Then onward it sped) into the blue)
               But no more did I care.
               My heart was unburdened and free of pain)
               And my bod» as light as air.

               And then I solved the mystery
               Of the ship whose decks I trod;
               Out of the blue it came to me-
               This was the ship of God.
