Ward Arch Turns 100
Bill and Jackie Brown '51 Hering, with President Robert Chambers (back), cut
a birthday cake for 100-year-old Ward Memorial Arch, built in 1898 in memory
of College President James T. Ward. Bill'sfather, George Hering, was one of
the stone masons who helped relocate the arch from its original spot at the
entrance of the college to the comer of Main and Union streets in 1937.
