HOMECOMING 1983 On Saturday, October 8, 1983, Western Maryland College celebrat- ed Homecoming. The theme of the annual event, Octoberfest, was carried throughout the day's activities. A new WMC tradition was started with the running of the 10K race sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon to benefit the William McCormick, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Homecoming would not have been complete without the parade up Main Street which included student floats and band and alumni repre- sentations. After the parade the Green Terrors took on Juniata came out on top. At halftime the King, Queen and Court presentations were made. Also, Wilbur "Woody" Preston, Jr., Class of 1944, was hon- ored as "Alumnus of the Year". The day's festivities concluded with the Homecoming Dance sponsored by the Capboard and the Junior Class. In all, the day was a great success. The Pom Pons were out in style. Jim Francis and Beth Dornan were Homecoming King and Queen. The Green Terrors make the tackle. 164
