"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. " -Thomas Jefferson "One of the purposes of a liberal education is to promote understanding and a tolerance of new and different ideas.Unfortunately, as they grow older many graduates become more dogmatic and less open to change. My most important advice to graduating seniors would be to keep an open mind, experience new things, and challenge outmoded theories. concepts, and values. Institutions cannot keep pace with the times unless the individuals who govern them do likewise." -Jeanne Higbee Dr. Jeanne Higbee 60
