What is this thing called love-that elusive beastie that lurks on the golf course on starry nights and in dorms when roommates have mysteriously disappeared for the weekend? To find out, the Yearbook staff surveyed a ran- dom selection of WMC students, and found that love was a nice word with many convenient uses. Ranking the the top ten uses was the ever-popular "Dear Mom: Please send money. Love, Your child." Other popular usages were "love triangle," "love stinks," "love 'em and leave 'em" and "If you loved me Several students attempted to define the mysterious word. "Love is Bohe- mian, man!" and "Love is Bruce Spring' steen" were popular attempts, and sev- eral sorority members claimed that "Love is a candlelight!" Several psy' chology professors mentioned the thin line between love and hate, and the rela- tionship between love and the Oedipus complex, but even these experts could not give us a truly complete explana- tion. Dissapointed, the staff trudged back to the Yearbook office with what little insight they had gained, and decided that love is that undefinable feeling of warmth that you have for your friends, your family, or your boyfriend or girlĀ· friend which results in kind, helpful and affectionate actions-in the "best of all possible worlds," Unfortunately, our lives and actions do not always reflect that loving ideal world, which is why we take advantage of days like February 14 to bare the secrets of our hearts to those objects of our affections. This year some of the popular ways of unveiling hidden love included sending "Singing Valentines" sung by choir members, personalized cookies care of the Phi Sigs, or lovely flowers compliments of the freshman class. A special Valentines dance put a fitting climax to the evening of romance and celebration of this thing called Love. 35
