Mortar, Stones and Memories 1978 Welcome to the 1978 edition of the Western Maryland College Yearbook. This year's staff selected the title of Mortar, Stones and Memories. There is nothing tricky or deceptive about the title; it was selected to illustrate our conception of college life, We at Western Maryland are truely blessed with one of the most beautiful campuses around. How many times have you gone back-campus just to absorb the beauty of nature and to get away from it all? What other college campus offers this? To us, the beauty of the campus is the Mortar - - what brings the people and the places together. We also have some nice architecture here. Some of the buildings are featured in pen and ink sketches on the divider pages. The buildings are represented in the title by the word Stones. Memories of life here at Western Maryland is really what the whole book is about. We have tried to accurately record the sights, sounds and activities of life on the Hill this year. Hopefully this book will be more useful in 20 years than it is now So there you have it - - the 1978 Mortar, Stones and Memories. If you haven't guessed by now, this book is a bit more traditional than in past years, from the cover and textured pages to the use of copy within the book. One feature that will be appreciated in the years to come is the Index Hope you enjoy the rest of the book. The 1978 Mortar, Stones and Memories staff has worked extremely hard to make this the best book that Western Maryland has ever seen I believe that we have reached this goal Robert M. Heer.
