Lacrosse 1969 saw the game of lacrosse brought back to the Hill as a varsity sport. Unfortunately, a large number of starters from last year's successful (9-1) "club" team were lost to graduation and this year's squad boasted only three seniors. Most of the games were nip-and-tuck battles gOing into the last period, but lack of depth in the midfield positions left Our stickmen at a disadvantage_ Against a highly touted Loyola team the score was knotted at 3-3 going into the fourth quarter only to see the more rested Grey- hounds outrun the Terrors and roll up the final 10-4 margin. Leading the scoring this season were sophomore Ed Smith and freshman Ron Athey. Only co-captains AI Kempske and Bill Dudley along with senior middy Mike Baker will be lost, leaving a strong, young, and experi- enced nucleus of underclassmen on whose shoulders a winning dynasty might hopefully be built. 98
