          ProQuest Historical Newspapers

                     The ProQuest Historical Newspapers collection documents the past in the complete historical backfiles of leading U.S. newspapers, each with its own unique perspective. They provide a richly faceted view of the American experience, from frontier days to modern times. All are offered from the the first issue forward.  Every issue is presented in cover-to-cover full page image, complete with the ads, photos, and other graphics that put the news in its context.

Location of Newspapers in Hoover Library

  • Current issues are located on newspaper racks on 2nd floor. Issues up to 3 months old are kept in the newspaper bookcase on 2nd floor.
  • Library carries back issues of only the New York Times, 1851 (vol.1) to present; and the Washington Post 1977, (vol. 100) to present. These are on microfilm, located in black cabinets on 2nd floor.

Washington Post

    • Full text stories from the past 2 weeks are free.
    • Search for citations of articles from 1877 to two weeks ago at theWashingtonpost.com Archives.
  • Hoover Library keeps paper issues of the Washington Post until microfilm arrives.
    Hoover Library does not receive the Saturday paper.
    Hoover Library carries back issues on microfilm from Jan. 1977 (v.100) to present.
  • The Washington Post Index (1989 to present) is located in the Index section of the Reference area (Call number: Index 070 W319).
