Communications and Marketing
The Public Relations Office first appeared in the 1942 Western Maryland College Catalog. Milson Carver Raver was the first director and was succeeded by John Bayley Jones in December of 1945. Philip Uhrig became director of Public Relations in 1950 and continued in this position until he became Director of Alumni Affairs in 1964/65. The assistant director of Public Relations, Nancy Winkleman then stepped up to director. Public Relations became Publications and Publicity under Winkleman. She left in 1972. By 1974/1975 catalog Publications and Publicity comes under the rubric of the Office of Development. Richard K. Moore is director. The 1979/1981 Catalog states another change in both the director and the department name as Joyce Muller took the reigns as Director of Public Information. In 1986/1988 the Department of Public Information and the Department of Development are separate Departments under the new Office of College Relations. In 1992 Public Information is a full separate department reporting to the vice president of Institutional Advancement. As a new millennium dawned, Public Relations and Publications became Communications and Marketing in 2002.
