Scope and Contents: Faculty Records:
Record Group RG311 contains records (correspondence, curriculum vitae, contract agreement letters, salaries) relating to the faculty of the College, including adjuncts and summer session faculty. In processing these papers they were kept in the original order placed on them by the Provost’s office with the following exceptions - duplicates were removed. Arrangement is mostly alphabetical, however in earlier years not all faculty had individual files and records were filed chronologically by year of appointment. Many faculty members had less than three items in their file. These files were grouped alphabetically and placed in a folder for year appointed. All faculty files that included more than three items were placed in separate folders and filed behind year of appointment. Lists of salaries are chronological. Folder 678: Samuel Biggs Schofield was removed from its original order and placed with his personal papers in the1970s. This folder was discovered as his personal papers were being processed in 2007 and was placed back into RG311.
Faculty Meeting Minutes:
The Faculty Meetings record group consists of faculty meeting minutes, reports to the faculty from faculty committees, meeting handouts, awards given faculty at the Opening Meeting, memos to the faculty regarding meetings or committees, and other papers. Minutes were kept in minute books and binders until 1999. After 1999 a printed out copy of the minutes and an agenda were sent directly to the Archives each month. In 2010 the magnetic disks from which the minutes were printed out were transferred to the Archives.
Records that were in binders were placed into folders in the same order they were in the binders. During processing these records it was discovered that there was not a complete set of minutes for the academic year 1995-1996. Copies of these minutes were found and retrieved from the Provost's office. Minutes from 1999 to 2010 are printed out from their original electronic form. Minutes from 2003 forward can be accessed through the McDaniel College Intranet.
Most duplicates were removed.
Faculty Handbooks:
This record group includes faculty handbooks, adjunct faculty handbooks, emeritus faculty handbooks, amendments, and clarifications of benefits and requirements.
Faculty handbooks published after 2000 were transferred from the Provost's Office to the Archives annually in the fall. Most recent Faculty Handbook may be found on McDaniel College's intranet.
Faculty handbooks that were sent to the McDaniel College Library Archives room between 1970 and 1989 were originally numbered 6/01 according to the shelf list used by the Archives.
