Librarians at Hoover Library offer library instruction for all undergraduate and graduate classes on research methods and use of library resources. We can support instruction in a variety of ways based on the needs of your individual classes. You can find our instruction policies, a list of instruction librarians, and more information regarding instruction on our Instruction Resources page.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service for students, faculty, and staff to obtain materials not owned by Hoover Library. We can request items from libraries throughout the United States. Click on the Interlibrary Loan page for more information.
To provide the highest level of service to our faculty, each academic department at McDaniel College has a library liaison assigned to it. Liaisons promote communication between the library and faculty, share information about library services, and provide suggestions for book purchases. Please see the department liaisons.
Instructors may designate library books, personal copies of materials, photocopies of book chapters and journal articles, and media as course reserves. These items will be held in the reserves area of the library located behind the circulation desk, where students can check them out for the limited period of time specified by their instructor (standard loan periods are 1 hour, 3 hours, 24 hours, and 1 week) any time the library is open. Please see the Reserve Guidelines for more information, or go straight to our online Reserve Form.
Online Collection Development Tools
The Library subscribes to several online selection tools that will help you find reviews of new titles in your subject area to add to the library’s collection using your department’s library funds. Please see the details for using our collection development tools.
The Technical Services Department supports the educational mission of Hoover Library by obtaining and organizing materials to meet the information needs of the McDaniel College community.
